A delicious combination of creamy vanilla custard topped with fresh strawberries, this tart is a perfect dessert for any occasion.

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, butter, and sugar until crumbly. Add egg yolk and mix until dough forms.
  3. Press the dough into a tart pan and bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden. Allow to cool.
  4. In a saucepan, heat milk until just simmering. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch.
  5. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly. Return the mixture to the saucepan.
  6. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the custard into the cooled tart shell and smooth the top. Chill in the refrigerator until set.
  8. Once set, top with fresh strawberries before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter tart, increase the sugar in the custard.
  • You can use other fruits like blueberries or raspberries as toppings.
