- 1 head cabbage
- 1 pound ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 jar (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully place the cabbage head into the water for about 2-3 minutes until the leaves soften.
- Once softened, remove the cabbage and let it cool.
- In a large bowl, mix together ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and dill.
- Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the filling at the base of the leaf, and roll it tightly while tucking in the sides.
- Place the rolls seam-side down in a large baking dish.
- Pour the tomato sauce and broth over the rolls, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes to enhance the flavor.
Notes
- For a spicier version, you may add red pepper flakes to the filling.
- These rolls can be frozen before baking for later use.
