  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 pound ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 jar (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully place the cabbage head into the water for about 2-3 minutes until the leaves soften.
  2. Once softened, remove the cabbage and let it cool.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and dill.
  4. Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the filling at the base of the leaf, and roll it tightly while tucking in the sides.
  5. Place the rolls seam-side down in a large baking dish.
  6. Pour the tomato sauce and broth over the rolls, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes to enhance the flavor.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, you may add red pepper flakes to the filling.
  • These rolls can be frozen before baking for later use.
